Biting fingers that feed

When your master is your enemy, you are doomed. This saying reflects the true nature of the situation we found ourselves here in Nigeria for more than a decade now. It appears there are no much difference between those who seek to execute us and our leaders. At this crucial time, circumspection doesn’t matter in making any dangerous move or taking a dangerous decision that will guarantee elections victory in 2019 at the behest of the live of a common man. The recent dangerous proposals to create state police can serve as good example.
It’s a pity that Nigerian masses are dying for those who do not care about them at all. 74 persons were reportedly massacred in Zamfara state penultimate week. The governor, Abdul Aziz Yari has been in Abuja attending different functions. He chaired NGF meeting and attended NEC meeting on Thursday. After he was done, he deemed fit to joined his counterparts and traveled to Katsina on four chartered planes to meet with president Buhari in his home town Daura.
If the governor was merciless enough to neglect his people at that trying time, went ahead to attend those meetings, heartless enough to proceeds to Daura, I think the president should be compassionate enough to lead his entourage including the governor to the scene to commiserate with the families of the victims and take necessary action. Should the president feel too stressful to visit the scene, he should at least be thoughtful enough to instruct the governor to go back to his state rather than attending that political meeting.
Our leaders can provide security for themselves but they can’t provide security for masses. Take for instance, when Abuja airport was shutdown for runway repair, and flight was diverted to Kaduna airport, more than one thousand police men were redeployed to Abuja – Kaduna highway including helicopters and sniffer dogs to safeguard the lives of the ruling class. Protecting their own lives is primary while that of the masses is secondary.
This is how Nigerian leaders are biting the fingers that fed them so well. When they are looking for our votes, they can go to every nook and cranny of this nation without feeling a bit of stress to entreat us to vote for them. But once they won the election, their dogs will be taking care of more than the masses on whose back they rode to power. Henceforth, they will be living in absolute affluence while masses are left to fend for themselves.
