Defence Headquarters has said that the nation’s military was aware that democracy “is the best international practices of governance,” hence it would not do anything that would truncate it.
Briefing journalists yesterday at the Defence Headquarters, Abuja, Defence spokesperson, Maj.-Gen. John Enenche, dismissed media reports about the coup plot by some military officers.

He said officers and men of the Armed Forces remained focused on their Constitutional roles, and would never derail from their oath of allegiance.
The Defence spokesperson assured Nigerians that the Armed Forces would remain “totally loyal to the commander- in- chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and complete subordination to civil rule.”
Enenche said the Armed Forces, and the Army in particular, had employed due process to ensure that officers and men remained committed to performing their constitutional roles.

“It is our responsibility to caution officers and men on routine basis to conform to the ethics of the military in all ramifications, interactions and exchange of visits among others, adding that the mention of coup plot from some quarters is an assertion which is not confirmed,” he said.
He added that the military would continue to ensure effective training and administration, to ensure that Armed Forces of Nigeria retain its place of pride among the military globally.
