Education board tasks NGOs on boy-child education

FCT Secondary Education Board (SEB) has charged non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the Territory to pay attention to the education of the boy-child in order to ensure balance and equal representation in the matters affecting the boy-child in the society.
A press statement by SEB spokesperson, Odugbo Sarah, at the weekend, stated that Board Member 1, Mr. Sunny Moniedafe, who supervises activities of NGOs collaborating with SEB, made the appeal during a meeting with the NGOs.
She said the meeting was necessary for effective interaction to create harmonious working relationship to further deepen the partnership between the Board and the NGOs.
The spokesperson said Moniedafe commended the NGOs for their intervention programmes aimed at bridging the gaps as well as complementing the efforts of the FCT Administration through the Education Board, pointing out that “government on his own cannot meet all the needs of the schools.”
She said “when the girl and boy-child are well trained and equipped, they will channel their energy to productive ventures and shun vices capable of truncating their progress.”
In another development, SEB, Monitoring and Evaluation Division, has organised a one-day intensive workshop on the process for mentoring coordinators from the 62 senior secondary schools under the management.
SEB spokesperson said, Moniedafe, while declaring the workshop open, said it was part of the eight-point Agenda of the Board Chairman, Yahaya Musa Muhammad, for building staff capacity.
“The Board is working to provide what is required to achieve its mandates in creating an enabling environment for quality and affordable education at the senior secondary school level,” she said.
Also speaking, the Head of Monitoring and Evaluation Division, Dr. Victoria Ogunyemi, said SEB had been in the forefront of ensuring teachers’ exhibit worthy characters which will assist them in the discharge of their duties.
