Etsu Lapai soccer tourney: Sulubawa are Champions

Sulubawa Football Club of Lapai in Niger State emerged winner of maiden edition of Emir of Lapai, Alhaji Umar Bago Tafida Football Competition.

The event which was organized by the Lapai Football Coaches Association in conjunction with Lapai Football Association and sponsored by son of the soil, Executive member of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Chairman Technical & Development Committee , Comrade Ahmed Yusuf Fresh.

The Finals of the Football Competition between the Sulubawa and Savanna Lions FC took place inside sports arena of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Lapai, with display of skills from both teams which recorded a dozen of dangerous incursions and saves from the goalkeepers of both teams who maintained clean slate from preliminaries to the finals.

Fresh later presented a basket full of awards ranging from set of jerseys, golden boot and cash to players who were outstanding and sports philanthropist within the emirate. The best Goalkeeper of the tournament award went to Umar Mahmud of Sulubawa FC, Bello Egigogo of Sulubawa barged the MVP award, and HRH was also crown as the Pillar and father of Youth and Sports.

The first, second and third best teams received cash awards of N100,000.00, N70,000.00 and N50.000.00 respectively in addition to other consolatory prizes such as trophies, set of Jerseys, Balls while the Lapai chapter of Football Coaches Association were rewarded with a cash of N100,000.00.

The Chairman, Lapai Football Association Alhaji, Muhammed Muhammed expressed gratitude to Emir Tafida for his untiring moral and financial supports to Youth Development programme within the emirate and beyond. Comrade Muhammed who also doubles as the Chairman of Niger State Supporters Club, showered encomiums on Yusuf for the enormous resources he has been spending on sports development at the grass roots.
