David James, who made his name in the Premier League and England’s national team, has expressed an interest in becoming Ghana’s new coach. Th e Black Stars are currently without a permanent coach following the departure of Avram Grant last month. Th e Ghana FA are expected to fi ll the vacant position within the next few weeks. James, 46, is a Premier League legend who represented the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City, West Ham United and Portsmouth.
He also picked up over 50 caps for England and was their fi rst-choice at Euro 2004 and the 2010 World Cup. “I was in Ghana last year and I really loved the vibe and I know it’s a great football nation,” James told Accra-based Citi-fm, as quoted by GHANASoccernet“I have played with some Ghanaian players and I know how they respond very well.” One of James’ competitors for the job is his former mentor Harry Redknapp, who managed the goalkeeper at both West Ham and Portsmouth.
