Gay marriage: Still waiting for an angry God

Finally, finally, the United States Supreme Court has dragged the entire God’s Own Country into the cesspool of iniquity by legalizing same sex marriage. Until two or so weeks ago, only a few states had been dancing on the quicksand of sodomy. Between 2011 and 2013, when the satanic wind of sodomy was blowing across the globe particularly in Europe and the States, I wrote two articles condemning the disgusting, nay, filthy act of man gaining penile access into another man through the anus.

On December 16, 2011, I did a piece in this column, entitled “The UK and the US as Sodom and Gomorrah” in which I hailed the 7th Senate, led by a David (Mark), for calling the bluff of the British Prime Minister, another David (Cameron) and assenting to the bills that outlawed same sex marriage in Nigeria.

This David of Britain is a direct opposite of the biblical David, King of Israel, described as the man after God’s own heart. The purveyor of iniquity had announced to the whole world that his government would withhold aids to any country that thumbed down same sex relationship. In that piece, I declared that by his proclamation, Britain had become a modern-day Sodom.
A couple of days after Cameron’s pronouncement, his first cousin, the lanky Barak Obama of the United States, gave a very tall order to his ambassadors to pursue same sex agenda in their countries of posting.

By that “Obamic” decree, the US became a modern-day Gomorrah. With iniquity turning a full circle, I followed up with another piece on July 26, 2013 entitled “Same sex marriage: Waiting for an angry God”. The title was borrowed from an awe-inspiring sermon by an American Christian theologian, Jonathan Edwards, entitled “Sinners in the hands of an angry God” which he delivered precisely on July 8, 1741. The homily was preached to the hard-hearted congregants of Enfield, Massachusetts.

The awakening sermon and all it expressed – the awful weight of sin, the wrath of an infinitely holy God, and the unexpectedness of the moment when God will execute justice – were integral to Edwards’ theology. Over three centuries after his demise, the fire-spitting preacher must be quaking in his grave at the turn of events in his home country and beyond. Compared to the present-day Americans, those Christians he tongue-lashed in his time were saints.

If homosexuality and lesbianism were among the sins the congregation he so vilified indulged in, how disgusted would he have been about same sex marriage?
The story of Sodom and Gomorrah is a familiar passage in the Holy Writ. So perverse were the men of Sodom that one night, they laid a siege on Lot’s residence and commanded him to surrender to them his male visitors who, unknown to them, were angels so that they could bed them.

The invaders were smitten with blindness so that Lot’s guests could escape the iniquitous request.
On July 10, 2013, Cameron’s Britain finally legalized gay marriage after Queen Elizabeth II gave her royal assent to a bill approved earlier by lawmakers.

The law permits same sex couple to get married in England and Wales, thus joining the league of reprobate nations like France, the Netherlands, Denmark, Spain and Portugal where homosexuals and lesbians can co-habit as married couples. However, the British queen did not mind her own business at her Buckingham Palace. She took time off to eviscerate Governor Chris Christie of New Jersey in faraway United States for not being man enough to legalise gay marriage in his state as she had just done in her kingdom.

I descended heavily on the queen for badmouthing a constitutionally elected governor in another country for his stance against gay marriage as if New Jersey was a British fiefdom. I told the empress that if God had reasoned like her by creating a second Adam instead of Eve in the Garden of Eden, there would have been no procreation and she would not have been born. The British anthem is titled “God save the Queen”.  For sure, it cannot be the angry God that exterminated Sodom and Gomorrah… just as we now know which God owns the United States.

Today, Chris Christie must be terribly disappointed by the Supreme Court’s passage of the obnoxious law. He should find solace in the fact that he stood on the side of righteousness when the Camerons, the Obamas and the Elizabeths of this sinful world were dancing naked in the synagogue of Satan. May their unmarried offspring end up as gays. Say a loud “Amen” to that prayer of the century.
The phenomenon of same sex folks saying “I do” is repugnant to African culture and custom, and to God. In Nigeria, anyone that chooses to be gay risks 14 years behind bars along with those who witness the unholy wedding.

We are even lenient here. Over 38 African countries have criminalised consensual sex between homosexual adults, with four punishing the offence by death. And because the Creator is no longer quick to anger as He was in the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, anti-gay thugs have sprung up in some African countries. For instance, way back in 2013, a prominent gay rights activist and penman, Eric Ohena Lembembe, was seized, tortured and killed in his home. That attack speaks volumes about how repugnant the idea is to an ordinary African.

Only recently, concerns have been expressed in some quarters that the West and the US might arm-twist President Muhammadu Buhari, who is desperate for assistance from the West and the US to fight insurgency and turn the economy around, to dump the anti-gay law.

And I laughed. If former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is a Christian like those perpetrating the iniquity across the world, could look at them straight in the eye and criminalise the same sex marriage, then the law is safe under PMB… regardless of their economic power and influence. Nigeria is not a beggar nation. It is the mismanagement of our enormous resources that is begging for answer.
Now, the question is: when will the God of Lot and Jonathan Edwards get angry? We are still waiting.
