Get constitution ready before next election, NOC boss tells Federations

 

President, Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Engr. Habu Gumel has again harped on the need for various sporting federations to take the issue of getting and working with their constitution, seriously.

Engr. Gumel who made the call at the just concluded seminar for Presidents of Sports federations, organised by Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), maintained that the use of constitution would curtail unnecessary bickering and create room for better governance system within the Nigeria sports sector.

While underscoring the importance of the colloquium tagged ‘Good Governance in Sports’, the NOC Boss added; “the objective of this seminar is no other thing but for the development of sports in Nigeria. We observed that good governance is lacking in many federations and its affecting their growth.

“I’m hopeful that by the time they return to their respective federations, they should be able to apply what learnt during the two days of the seminar. The issue of good governance and best practices has taken the centre stage of global sports, with major stakeholders battling with ethical matters bothering on integrity.”

On his part, President, Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engr. Musa Nimrod expressed concern that the country has in the past lost their place in numerous international competitions hence the need for constant training and re-training of both administrators and officials.
