Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has announced its suspension of alleged embezzlement by the Kano Emirate Council.
Although it said investigation had reached advanced stage, having established a case against the emirate council, the commission said it was withdrawing following the state House of Assembly’s takeover of the matter.
Chairman of the agency, Muhyi Magaji Rimin-Gado disclosed this to Blueprint last night.
The anti-graft agency was investigating allegations that the emirate council mismanaged N6 billion of its funds, but the council has denied, providing details of its expenditure.

However, last week, the state Assembly raised an ad-hoc committee to investigate the emir following a motion brought by member representing Nassarawa constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Gama, who outlined series of allegations against the emirate council.
The anti-graft agency subsequently announced suspension of its own probe, citing legal constraint regarding investigation of issues before the legislature or the courts.
Section 16 (1) of the law establishing the commission has barred it from investigation which is pending before the state Assembly, the Executive Council of the state or before any court of law.
