Governor Abdullahi Umar of Kano state has said Kano was “a great beneficiary of President Muhammadu Buhari’s sustained offensive against those who had wreaked serious havoc on the nation, most especially the northern part of the country in the name of Boko Haram.”
Speaking at a Town Hall Meeting convened to showcase his two-year scorecard as governor, yesterday, Ganduje said the President was “one who can be said to have achieved his goal on security100%,” adding that with the punitive steps he had taken to check the insurgency, he had proven his mettle as a leader worth his salt.

He said the people of Kano had been made to groan under the savage occupation of the Boko Haram elements before the President came on board on May 29, 2015, affirming that the President had exhibited the “courage of a fearless and intrepid leader whose resolve on engendering peace in the Boko Haram enclaves was never shaken in the face of any threat.”
Ganduje said the offensive had liberated cities and territories under the Boko Haram bondage, especially in the North-east, with Kano bearing a similar brunt “because of President Muhammadu Buhari’s sincerity of purpose in confronting the menace,” stressing that his administration had created synergy with relevant security agencies in the state in achieving a similar feat.

The governor said his administration was also able to seek the intervention of the President which led to the decision to turn the dreaded Falgore Forest into a training hub for military personnel for the forest to be made secure in the face of the persistent offensive of cattle rustlers, kidnappers and armed robbers who had wreaked serious havoc in the past.
He said having a huge population like that of Kano was a great potential for investment once such a human treasure was properly harnessed, tapped and utilised.
He said his administration had been consistent in utilising the vast potentials at his disposal to forge ahead.
Ganduje said the issue of continuity had been his major cardinal thrust since he assumed office two years ago, stressing that with the ongoing projects he initiated and continuing with the ones he had inherited from his predecessor his ambition of transforming Kano into a mega city would never be far-fetched.

He said his administration had also taken steps to accord top priority to critical sectors of human endeavour in the state which included “heath, education, empowerment, agriculture and water supply, among others,” adding that the presentation of his commissioners and heads of parastatal was enough to convince the people of the state that his administration had lived up to its billing in the last two years.
