Lawyers want Police, DSS to investigate ex-EFCC investigator

A group, Nigerian Lawyers Renaissance Forum, yesterday called on the Nigerian Police Force and Department of State Services to investigate the certificate being paraded by an erstwhile investigator of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Mr. Victor Uwajeh, as a private investigator.
According to a statement obtained from Mr. Jide Awoniyi, a legal practitioner, the group described the certificate as “fake” and a mere paper that Uwajeh allegedly photocopied, laminated and appended his own signature to, using same to blackmail politicians and public office holders for the purpose of obtaining money.
“Uwajeh has the selfish aim of tarnishing the reputable image of Senator Andy Uba,” the statement said, adding that the man “also attempted to swindle Senator Uba and so many other Nigerians using the same fake certificate he allegedly claimed he obtained from the United Kingdom.
“He is currently into hiding after being investigated by the police and eventually charged to court over forgery, theft, documents falsification.
“We want to alert Nigerians that the certificate Victor Uwajeh is claiming to have obtained in the United Kingdom is fake, the certificate is not real, the certificates do not carry any name of the institution of learning or organisation that issued them.
To worsen the situation, Uwajeh himself signed the certificate as the authorising signatory as well as the Registrar of the institution he claimed to have obtained the certificate.
“We therefore enjoin all Nigerians and supporters of Senator Uba to encourage all the relevant security agencies in the country as a matter of urgency to immediately commence investigations on how Victor Uwajeh got the certificate,” the statement said.
