New Algeria coach plots Super Eagles fall

By Gbenga Jolaosho With agency Algeria new coach Lucas Alcaraz has maintained that home and away wins against Zambia will go a long way in securing a 2018 World Cup ticket at the expense of group leaders Nigeria. Algeria are on a point after two rounds of matches and they are away to Zambia on August 28 with a reverse fi xture in Algeria on September 2. Former Granada CF coach Alcaraz said the double header against Zambia will determine their qualifi cation for Russia 2018. “We’re going to prepare for the two matches against Zambia. Th e players and the staff know what they have to do, what’s expected of them and the importance of the two matches,” he said “I’m absolutely convinced that if we beat Zambia, then we’ll qualify. “If we get through to the last match with morale high and full of hope after a couple of wins, I think we’ll be able to go into it with confi dence high. “If we can win our next home game, we’ll be in a good position to welcome Nigeria on the fi nal day.” Incidentally, Nigeria needed at least a draw in Algeria in fi nal qualifi er to qualify for their fi rst-ever World Cup in 1993.
