‘Nigeria has highest out-of-school children’

Th e Chief Executive Offi cer, Insight Africa and a coconvener of Annual School Needs Exhibition (ASNE), Mr. Obi Brown, has raised the alarm that statistics has shown that the country has the highest number of out-ofschool children.

Brown, who noted this in Abuja at an event to mark the 2017 ASNE Educational Fair with the theme: “Celebrating Creativity in Enterprise’’ explained that the reason for these was because most schools lack innovation and skills for students. “Th at is why the education system in Nigeria is behind the curve, when it comes to the way we improve our prosthesis and technologies among others,” he said.

Brown proff ered that school owners should focus more on science, technology and manufacturing agriculture, stressing the need to put more eff orts on methodology and curriculum design . He also called on stakeholders to contribute their quota toward improving the educational system of the country, explaining that “ASNE tries to go to the grassroots to better their education.

Th e government cannot do it all; private sector should look inward to help the government”. Also, the Chief Executive Offi cer, Annual School Needs Exhibition (ASNE), Emem Opashi, explained that the conference was in furtherance to achieving innovative teaching, especially in the area of technology to promote science and technology. She further said the conference would feature many education service providers on software, school uniforms, career profi ling and special education support.

”It is also an avenue to learn and project the quality of education and to know where we want to be, through innovation, in the next few years. We will try to fi nd a way to connect business with education and also meet the need of the educational system in the country, ‘’she said.
