Nigeria, Senegal test might in London

Nigeria and Senegal will continue their rivalry today in a friendly international at the Hive Stadium in London as part of both countries preparations for group phase qualifi ers in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Th e African Nations Cup gets underway with matchday one fi xtures in June.drawn in Group E and will begin their campaign with a clash at home to South Africa, while the Teranga Lions start their Group A campaign by hosting Equatorial Guinea. Nigeria and Senegal have met in 15 offi cial international matches according to FIFA’s statistical database.

Th e Super Eagles have claimed eight wins compared to four for the Teranga Lions, while three matches have been drawn. Th e teams’ most recent meeting was a WAFU Nations Cup fi nals match in 2010 (not recognised by FIFA as an offi cial match), which was won 2-0 by Nigeria.

Th e teams have further friendlies lined up for the international window: Nigeria will battle Burkina Faso on March 27, while Senegal take on the Ivory Coast on the same day. Both teams have called up strong selections for the matches, though Nigeria have suff ered a major blow with news that Victor Moses will be unable to feature. Senegal have had so such issue with star man Sadio Mane, who has promised that the Teranga Lions will get the better of their West African rivals.
