NSCDC arrests Airtel staff, 2 others over ‘internet fraud’

Operatives of Intelligence Squad of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), yesterday said it had arrested three suspects who specialised in swindling ladies through facebook.
According the Corps, they do that to swap and port information on victims’ SIM cards, gathering account details of victims and using them to defraud them.

The suspects, identified as Okeke Iheanyichikwu, 27, Solomon Anaba, 17, is a staff of Airtel network, Nigeria and Anaba Silverline, a female among them were said to have been arrested on 15 and 16, May, 1017 respectively.

The suspects, Blueprint gathered, had confessed to carrying out the act, adding that they duped some of their victims to the sum of N341, 900 only.
Parading the suspects at the FCT Command of NSCDC headquarters at Gudu yesterday, the Commandant, Mr. Patrick Ukpan, said the victims were tracked by his Intelligence Squad and arrested.
He called on Nigerians to avoid discussing their businesses on the Internet with people they did not know, adding that they should always be secretive with their account numbers.

The commandant said the suspects, after investigation, would be charge to court for prosecution, and called on youths to find better things to do instead to defrauding people through the Internet.
Two of the suspects, Iheanyichukwu and Anaba, said they regretted their actions and promised not go back to that act again, while the female among them, Silverline, insisted that she was innocent as she only helped her brother, Anaba, the staff of Airtel Nigeria, with her bank account numbers which he requested from her.
Items recovered from them were an Infinix Android phone, seven ATM cards and 69 unregistered Airtel SIM cards.
