NSE: Volume of transactions increase by 24 per cent

Volume of activities at the nation’s equity market last week increased by 24.3 per cent. The Nigerian Stock Exchange trading result  showed that stocks traded for the week rose by  227.095 million as investors recorded a turnover of 1.163 billion shares worth N9.251 billion in 14,992 deals  in contrast to a total of 934.905 million shares valued at N6.357 billion that exchanged hands previous week in 12,352 deals.
The Financial Services Industry  led the activity chart with 1.022 billion shares valued at N5.890 billion traded in 8,812 deals,  contributing 87.93 per cent  and 63.68 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively. The Conglomerates Industry took second position  with 61.569 million shares worth N141.308 million in 633 deals. The third position went  to Consumer Goods Industry with a turnoverr of 33.086 million shares worth N2.017 billion in 2,642 deals.
Trading in the top three equities namely – Access Bank Plc, Diamond Bank Plc and United Bank of Nigeria Plc accounted for 522.737 million shares worth N1.951 billion in 1,914 deals, indicating 44.95 per cent and 21.09 per cent to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.
However, market capitalisation of listed equities appreciated by N10 billion or  0.09 per cent to N9.570 trillion from N9.560 trillion traded two weeks ago.
Also  the NSE All Share Index appreciated by 25.81 basis point to 27861.03 points from 27835.22 points recorded the previous week.
Similarly, all other Indices finished higher during the week with the exception of The NSE-Main Board,

NSE Insurance, NSE Lotus II and the NSE Industrial Goods Indices that declined by 0.21 per cent, 0.55 per cent 1.15 per cent and 3.59 per cent respectively,while the NSE ASeM Index closed flat. NSE Premium Index increased by 10.18 to 1,766.96, NSE 30 index 3.13 basis points to 1,235.38, NSE Banking Index 5.20 to 272.06, Consumer Goods index 4.22 to 741.22 points, Oil and Gas index 0.83 to 332.96 and NSE Pension N0.87 to 824.89 points                                                                            An analysis of the  transactions for the week showed that 22 equities appreciated in price against 22 recorded the previous week. The result showed that 42 quoted companies depreciated in price, higher than 35 companies reported  the previous week, while  116 equities remained unchanged against 123 equities recorded in the preceding week.                                          Coverton Offshore Support GRP PLc led gainers table, growing by 13.43 per cent or N0.09 kobo, to close at N0.76 kobo, Seplat Petroleum Development Company Ltd followed with a gain of 10.25 per cent or N35.88 kobo to close at N385.88 kobo while Transnationwide Express Plc appreciated by 9.80 per cent or N0.10 kobo to close at N1.12 kobo. Other companies appreciated in price were Zenith Bank 5.41 per cent, Access Bank 4.63 per cent, Union Bank of Nigeria 3.96 per ceent, United Capital Plc 3.59 per cent, Livestock Feeds Plc 3.49 per cent, A.G. Leventis Nigeria Plc 3.33 and Nigerian Breweries Plc 1.99 per cent                                        on the contrary, UACN Property Development Company Plc topped losers chart, dropping by 13.67 per cent or N0.54 kobo to close at N3.41 kobo, Lafarge Africa Plc trailed with a loss of 9.96 per cent to close at N42.50 kobo while E-tranzact International Plc dropped by 9.67 per cent or N0.55 kobo to close at N5.14 kobo. Other firms that recorded price depreciation were Forte Oil Plc 9.24 per cent, Pharma Deko Plc 9.09 per cent, Cement Company of Northern Nigeria 8.33 per cent, Paints and Coatings Manufacture Plc 7.69 per cent, Cutix Plc 6.90 per cent, Guinness Nigeria Plc 6.16 per cent, AIICO Insurance Plc 6.15 per cent .
Also traded during the week were a total of 119,743 units of Exchange Traded Products (ETPs) valued at N600,589.51 executed in 25 deals, compared with a total of 184 units valued at N2,077.37 transacted last week in 16 deals.
A total of 1,510 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N1.558 million were traded in 1 deal compared to a total of 580 units of Federal Government Bonds valued at N N576,723.03 transacted last week in 2 deals.
