Pensioners task president on 33 per cent arrears owed members

Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) while welcoming President Muhammadu Buhari back from his medical vacation has tasked the president on 33 per cent arrears owed members of the union.
The union in a statement signed by NUP President, Dr. Abel Afolayan and General Secretary, Elder Actor Zal, expressed hope that with the return of the president, the pension and gratuity would soon be paid.
According to the statement: “We wish to join millions of Nigerians to rejoice with President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR) on his return to the country from a medical vacation in the United Kingdom.

“We pray for long life and good health of the president and that under his leadership, the nation will come out of the economic recession and move the economy forward.
“We will like to reiterate the support and appreciation of all Nigerian pensioners for his administration especially as the federal government under his able leadership has made pension payment a top priority as pension has now been place on first line charge.”
The union further stated that: “Till date, payment of monthly pension by the Federal Government is not a challenge, except the balance of arrears of our 33% pension increase.
“Now that the President is back, we are very hopeful that the arrears of pension and gratuity will be paid soon.”
