Police dock 3 for death, torture of minors

Three are cooling their heels in the custody of the police in Gombe state for allegedly conspiring to forcefully confine and torture two girls aged 9 and 13, said to have been accused of witchcraft, leading to the death of one of the girls.
A press statement by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) in the state, Ahmed Usman, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) listed the suspects as James Awak, Adamu Zakka and Hannatu Awak.
He said, police investigation indicate that the minors were tortured for two weeks, some liquid substance was rubbed on their body after which a horse whip was used to beat them.
According to him, a screwdriver was also used to inflict injuries on the girls as a result of which the nine-year-old, died and was buried in an unmarked grave by the suspects.
Usman further stated that the suspects have already been charged to court, promising that justice would be done in done in the matter.
