Rights group commences 16-day campaign on women rights

Women International League for Peace and Freedom, an association of women right group, has commenced a 16-day campaign to draw awareness on what women, especially young girls, go through in live.

Speaking during a sensitisation workshop in Abuja, the Country Director of Amnesty International, Mrs. Ossai Ojigho, said because women have kept quiet over such matters in the past, the trend had continued, urging victims to display rare courage and come out to speak against the menace.

In commemorating the campaign, a video clip titled: ‘Silent Tears’ which show cases the travails of women like Dorathy Nzemanze, a woman activist, was shown as she gave a narrative of how she had suffered sexual abuse several times, for which she is currently in court to seek redress.

The women group, therefore, resolved that as part of its campaign, women and social crusaders should endeavour to identify the cause of violence against women, while thinking differently and acting differently as part of its new campaign strategies.
