Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the executive secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Julius Okojie, “for his role in the removal of staff of University Staff Primary Schools from the payroll of universities in the country.”
Speaking with newsmen in Sokoto, the association’s National President, Mr. Samson Ugwoke, pleaded with Buhari to remove the NUC executive secretary for attempting to breach the peace in the Nigerian University System.
Samson wondered why the NUC boss would allow himself to be used by some staff of the federal ministry of education with the purpose of throwing thousands of Nigerians, who earned their legitimate livelihood through teaching and working in university staff schools into the unemployment market.
The president, who spoke through the national vice-president (North), Comrade Solomon Alfa, described the actions of Okojie and his cohorts in the Federal Ministry of  Education as “a conspiracy against members of SSANU who teach in staff schools.”
He said: “SSANU wishes to openly express its disgust at the Executive Secretary of National Universities Commission and his cohorts in the Federal Ministry of Education who are allowing themselves to be used to do a dirty job for which posterity will not record them in good books.
“Evidences abound that the Ministry of Defence still funds over 100 Army, Navy and Airforce Primary and Secondary Schools in the country.
We therefore, wonder the basis for the attention on the 24 University Staff Schools whose annual budget is less than N2 billion, despite over N100 billion spent on the Army and Police Staff Schools.
