Savannah Conference:Mark Mentors eye continental ticket

Savannah-Conference-of-NigeMoments after humiliating Kada Stars of Kaduna 95 – 50, in one of the matches decided in the Savannah Conference of Nigeria’s top Basketball League season at the weekend in Abuja, chief coach of Mark Mentors, Mr. Peter Ahmedu, has declared that side are ready to secure a continental ticket despite gaining promotion recently from the Atlantic Conference.

Before rattling Kada Stars, Mark Mentors had edged out Plateau Peaks 54 – 45 in Jos to brighten their chances of picking one of the continental slots just as Kada Stars toppled Niger Potters 68-39 in a separate encounter.
Superlative performances by Mark Mentors in recent times have positioned them among table toppers in the league.

Speaking to Blueprint Sport at the weekend inside Package B of Abuja National Stadium, Ahmedu said: “We have not come into the league to try but rather we came to stake our place to enable us achieve good results that will take us to the continental place where we want to represent the country.
“By the grace of God, we hope to do better in weeks and months to come. We have been able to point out some lapses which we will work as the season progresses. We are taking each game as it comes no matter the team. We promise to give every of them a run for their money.

On his part, coach of Kada Stars Sani Tuai admitted his side lost to a better side and blamed their defeat on loss of concentration at a point, but assured they would continue to reinforce the team to enable them soar higher as his players play more games ahead.
He said: “We lost to a more experienced side. Half of my team just joined us and we are rebuilding from last year. I lost 90% of my players last season and we recruited from NUGA Games and National Sports Festival.”
