Troops kill 4 militias in Bauchi, arrest 6 herdsmen in Benue

Troops of 33 Artillery Brigade in Operation Lafiya Dole fighting patrol have killed four militias during a gun duel at Burra junction in Ningi Local Government of Bauchi state. Army spokesperson, Brig. Gen. Texas Chukwu said the troops encountered the militia men when they were massing up at the Burra junction.
“The militia men on sighting the troops opened fi re on them, and the troops reacted immediately by engaging them, killing four of them at the end of the encounter,” he said. Chukwu said the troops recovered: five Dane guns, 38 motorcycles and nine bicycles, while nine of the militia men were arrested. He said a soldier sustained gunshot wounds during the encounter. “The soldiers have been evacuated to the hospital and receiving treatment.
He is in a stable condition,” he said. Chukwu said the troops would continue their pursuit of the fl eeing militias with the view of apprehending more of them. Also the army spokesperson said in a statement that troops of 707 Special Forces Brigade have arrested 6 herdsmen allegedly caught in destroying farmland in Kwata Sule settlement in Benue state.
He said troops while on patrol in general area of Chembe, Tse-Gundu, Tse-Iordye and Sbaor encountered two herdsmen who abandoned the motorcycle they were riding on and fled to the bush on sighting the troops. “On search of the general area, one round of 7.62mm special was discovered,” he said. He said the six herdsmen arrested at Kwata sule had been handed over to the police after initial interrogation.
Works on Navy War College to begin soon – Senator
Chairman of Senate Committee on Navy, Isa Misau, has said that work on the building of the Navy War College in Idundu, Cross River State will commence soon. Misau, who was on a visit to the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) of the Nigerian Navy, said the clearing and fencing of the over 120 hectares of land where the War College would be situated would soon kick off .
Misau, who was conducted round by the Flag Officer Commanding of the ENC, Rear Admiral Matthew Emuekpere, visited the site of the proposed War College, the Naval Ratings Housing Estate at Atimbo, the Navy Reference Hospital and the NNS Victory jetty in Calabar. He said if the resource is not adequate, it could be moved to the 2019 budget.
