Votes N2.8bn for Suleja – Minna road

About N2.8 billion has been earmarked in the 2017 budget for the completion of the Suleja – Minna road project in Niger state, the senator representing Niger East at the National Assembly, David Umaru, has said. He said this yesterday in a chat with journalists, adding that the Senate was aware of the plight of the people and motorists on the road. He said: “As you know, the Suleja – Minna road has become death trap for motorists and we are seriously concerned with the hardship of our people on this road over the years. In response to the yearnings of the people of Niger state, the Senate has voted N2.8bn in the 2017 Budget for the completion of construction project.”

He expressed the appreciation of his constituents and the people of Niger state in general to the Senate President, Dr. Bokola Saraki, and his colleagues at the National Assembly, saying that the project would be completed this fi scal year to alleviate the suff erings of the people. He also thanked members of the National Assembly for the provision of N150m for the take off the Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC), adding that the process for the appointment of the commission’s board members has reached advanced level. He said: “We have done necessary amendment in the HYPPADEC bill especially in the area of the remittance of 30% from the GENCOs which were on the high side. We have reduced this to about 10% in the amendment. We are also getting ready to establish the board of the commission for its smooth take off and this will be done very soon.”
