‘Why Army established FOB in Daura’

Nigerian Army has established a Forward Operation Base in Daura, Katsina State, as part of it strategies to stop perceived threat along the border area in the North-west, by the Boko Haram terrorists and other criminal gangs.

Since the capture of the Sambisa forest late last year, the terrorists, according to the military authorities, have been fleeing along the border areas of Nigeria, Cameroun, Niger, and Republic of Chad.
A forward operating base (FOB) is a secured forward military position that is used to support tactical operations. It is traditionally supported by Main Operating Bases that are required to provide backup support to them.
Chief of Army Staff,  Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai told journalists after inaugurating the facility at the Koza village, about a kilometer from Daura, that the facility was one of such approved by the Nigerian Army Council last year in it 2016 order of battle.

He said the analysis of some perceived threat along the border areas by the council necessitated the establishment of the unit.
“You know these Boko Haram terrorists have been moving around all over the place, especially along the border countries,” he said. “Therefore we need to take care of all our border areas. Right from the Lake Chad waters through Yobe, Jigawa, Katsina and up to Sokoto, is part of the strategic considerations based on the threat analysis and the Nigerian Army ORBAT 2016.”

Buratai disclosed that the army also has plans to build more FOBs in some locations in the North east as well as some strategic location across the country. “But for security reasons I don’t have to mention the details,” he said.
Earlier in the palace of Emir of Daura, Buratai sort the cooperation of the people of the emirate to enable the military perfume its constitutional duties in the area.
The Emir, Alhaji Umar Farouk Umar praised the military for decimating terrorism in the North east and insurgency in some parts of the country. He assured the army chief of the cooperation of people of his domain.
The FOB was named after President Muhammadu Buhari.
