Wuye market holds Xmas trade fair

Authorities of Wuye Ultra Modern Market have announced the commencement of Christmas Trade Fair to give residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) the opportunity to shop for items at affordable prices during the yuletide period.
Speaking at press conference yesterday in Abuja, the Director of operation of the market, Balogun Oluwasegun, said the purpose of the trade fair was to create awareness that the market had begun operations since August 2, this year.
According to him, the eight-day event which starts from December 9 to 16 is also part of efforts for the promotion of made-in-Nigeria products according to the federal government’s directive.

Oluwasegun also disclosed that about 300 marketers had shown interest to be part of the fair, saying that “the trade fair is not targeted at profit making; we are not even asking them to pay gate fee.”
While calling on federal government to make it easy for business owners to access loans, Oluwasegun lamented that most of the shop owners at Wuye market that were yet to occupy their allocations had blamed it on current economic recession in the country.
“Most of them came to tell us that while they have not come to take possession of the shops is because of the economic recession and we have advised them to take loans.”
Also speaking, planning committee chairman, Joe Wenegieme, described Wuye market as “one of the best” in the country with all necessary facilities already in place.
Wenegieme called on FCT residents and its environs to take advantage of the trade fair.
