6,040 Jigawa youths screened for rice production

Jigawa state technical committee on the implementation of commodity farming has screened 6,040 youths to be engaged in dry season rice farming in the state.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Alhaji Kabiru Ali, announced this during a meeting with members of the committee and stakeholders at the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday.
He said, already, 17 had been selected for dry season rice farming of which 28 sites had been selected for the project.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Alhaji Gambo Ibrahim Aliyu, stated that,, already the list of dry season had been compiled and given to the Bank of Agriculture for screening and disbursement of the loan.
He therefore stressed the need for the Central Bank of Nigeria to liaise with the Bank of Agriculture, to ensure speedy take off of the project.
In his speech, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Economic Empowerment, Alhaji Muhammad Shehu Mujaddadi, disclosed that the committee for the implementation of the micro credit goat production has proposed to disburse 34,4 40 goats to the 11, 480 women across the state.
