Why I chose a woman as my running mate-Aremu


Labour Party governorship candidate in the 2019 general elections in kwara state, comrade Issa Aremu, says he he chose a woman, Mrs. Rebecca Ndache as his running mate because women are hard working, supportive and very caring.

Aremu said this at a reception he organised for a newly wedded couple, Mr. Opeyemi Adeoti, who is a reporter with Moonlight Newspaper based in Ilorin, and his wife.


The former Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), who recalled the contributions of his late wife, Hajia Hamdalat, that made it possible for him to sustain the labour struggle to uplift the Nigerian workers. She died three years ago.

Aremu, who advised the newly weeded couple to show love to one another and persevere during difficult times that would usually come with a marriage, said he also opted to select a woman based on the concept of labour party’s “inclusiveness and popular participation”.

Meanwhile, Ilorin Emirate Integrity Youth Vanguard has organised special prayers for peace to reign in the state ahead of the 2019 general elections.

The group organised the prayers following the recent political development in Ilorin, where a meeting of eminent Ilorin sons was disrupted for political reasons.

The group also offered prayers for continued peaceful reign of the emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari.

Speaking on the significant of the prayers, one of the organisers, Alaburo Sheriffdeen, said it was to seek Allah’s intervention for peace to continue to resign in the Ilorin emirate and its environs.

“This prayer is also dedicated to the wellbeing and longevity of his HRH Alh. (Dr.) Ibrahim Zulu Gambari (CFR) for his reign to continue to bring peace and more development to our emirate”, he said.

Alaburo said though the group envisaged no problem ahead of the elections, he said it was the tradition of the people to continue to pray for sustainable peace and harmony which the ancient Islamic city is known for.

He eulogised the group’s patron, Prince Madibbo Sulu-Gambari for providing mentorship and leadership for the youth even as special prayer was also offered for his birthday celebration.

The special prayer was led by prominent Sheikhs in Ilorin and lecture was delivered by renowned Islamic preacher, Fadilat Sheick Uthman Sanu Shehu.
