101,000 applicants jostle for 1,000 slots in Navy recruitment


Over One hundred and one thousand applicants have so far applied for the ongoing Nigerian Navy recruitment for the non-officers cadre for 2019 recruitment exercise.

The Naval Secretary, Rear Admiral Frederick Ogu said this Monday while fielding questions from journalists during media dialogue with some principal Staff Officers of the Naval Headquarters.

He said although 101,000 applicants have indicated interest so far the number could increase to over 200,000 before the close of registration.

Rear Admiral Ogu said application is free, and cautioned prospective applicant to be wary fraudster who would want to deceive them.The Nigerian Navy had on 20 January announced the opening of its portal for application of prospective candidates for the 2019 recruitment to the non-officer cadre.

A statement by Director of Information, Nigerian Navy, Commodore Suleman Dahun, said applicants must possess a minimum of 5 credits in not more than 2 sittings in WASCE/SSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB (English and Mathematics inclusive).

He said applicants should be between the ages of 18 – 22 years or 24 – 26 years for those with ND, NCE, Nursing and Motor Transport Department (MTD) respectively.

”Furthermore, applicants must be single and of Nigerian origin by birth. The required height is 1.7m for males and 1.67m for females,” he said.

He advised applicants not to give any form of gratification to any person or groups to assist them in the recruitment.
