2019: Group wants Kogi govt to combat miscrants, thuggery


Ahead of the 2019 general elections, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Kogi Central, have called on the Kogi state government to maintain peace and order by helping to arrest miscrants who are aimed at causing crisis in the state.

The group made the call at a roundtable for peaceful co-existence pre and post 2019 general elections themed: “Sustaining Peace In Kogi Central a Necessity For All,” in Abuja.

He said all political parties, candidates and their agents and all stakeholders to avoid any form of violence by observing the exercise appropriately and not to be seen announcing election results ahead of INEC as it is capable of bringing in crisis while calling on Ebira sons to unite and work together.

“Sons and daughters of Ebira must as a matter of necessity unite and work together for the peace and development of our land.”

Speaking on behalf of the group, President General of the Ebira People Association Dr Abdulrahman Adeiza said experience of electoral violence from the past in the land had not only brought backwardness but has created hatred among the people making the successor generation of their people vulnerable and innocent victims of such actions.

He said governments at the state and local government levels ditto traditional, political and opinion leaders to ensure adequate security and regular monitoring of the elections for peaceful coexistence

A member of the Association of Ebira’s Professionals/Proudly Ebira Dr. Juliet Hussaina Muoneme said the group has put in place series of activities in place to achieve a positive result to have a violent-free election.

According to Muoneme, “We have been carrying out series of events to see that we have a peaceful and secured election. We wish to have our youths that are used for violence to be re-oriented in order to encourage a secured state during the election and beyond because this will serve as opportunities for them to receive such lectures eradicating the long stagnated  ignorance which would surely bring about a great turnaround.”

The Roundtable collaboration was powered by Ebira Peoples Association (EPA), Association of Ebira Professionals (AEP), Proudly Anebira Forum (PA), and Ebira Youth Congress (EYC).
