Abia SDP expels party convener

The convener of the Social Democratic Party in Abia state, Ambassador Endurance Okechukwu Philips, has been expelled from the party for alleged anti-party activities.

The state chairman of the party, Mr Chidi Nwosu, who announced the expulsion Wednesday at the party secretariat in Nsukka, the party cannot tolerate anti-party activities hence its decision to instill discipline by applying necessary party rules in that regard.

He accused Ambassador Philip of instigating residents to rebel against the party by adopting the PDP governorship candidate few days to the election.

He explained that Philips saw the governorship election as an opportunity to shortchange the party for his personal interest especially in respect of re-acquiring his property that the state government confiscated and allocated to the DSSS Abia state for public interest.

He added that he felt he could not achieve his goal if he does not brainwashed some LGA chairmen against their most qualified governorship candidate, Mrs Blessing Nwagba, and the state chairman Chidi Nwosu.

Further, he accused Philip of factionalising the party and weakening the chances of their governorship candidate just to curry favour from the PDP government.

“For Ambassador Philip’s attempt to factionalize our coherent party we view his actions as undue interference, insubordination and tending to use their party as barter for his land government had acquired.

“Abia SDP therefore considers it a threat to the peace and progress of the party and was compelled to expel him. We shall communicate the decision to the NWC for ratification.”

The Abia SDP also faulted the election that returned Okezie Ikpeazu as the winner claiming that the election was characterised by ballot box snatching and manipulation of figures.
