Abubakar, Aliyu, urges Nigerians to accept result


Former military head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar has called on Nigerians, particularly contestants in the presidential and National Assembly elections to accept results of the exercise and continue to maintain the peace that has prevailed during its conduct.

General Abubakar stated this yesterday while speaking with journalists after casting his vote in Minna.

He said, “let us always maintain peace because this is very important in any election. Now that we make sure that we perform our constitutional responsibility, let us go further to make sure that there is peace.”

He said the contestants should know that only one of them will emerge as winner, adding that “I hope that whoever emerge winner, the loser will accept it”.

Also speaking with journalists, former governor of Niger state, Muazu Babangida Aliyu expressed satisfaction with the turnout of people for the exercise.

He urged religious leaders to stop political preaching saying that their duty is to see to the spiritual wellbeing of their followers and political electioneering campaigns.

He lamented that some of them have collected money from some people  before embarking  on smearing of perceived enemies of the pay masters
