Accept defeat, congratulate Fintiri now, elders tell Bindow

Adamawa elders and stakeholders have advised incumbent governor Bindow Jibrilla against wasting his time and effort consulting legal advisers on what to do about the March 9 governorship result.

They also urged him to stop seeking unnecessary protection from the presidency over the outcome of governorship election, has stressing that the election has already been won and lost.

Instead of embarking on these waste of time and resources, they advised him to be bold enough to concede defeat and congratulate the winner, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of the PDP in the interest of the state and its people.

The INEC had declared the election inconclusive and scheduled for a supplementary election, though the PDP candidate was in the lead by 32,476 votes. The margin of win by PDP which was put at 32,476 was less than 40,988 in 44 polling units where election results were cancelled.

Meanwhile, the INEC said the actual number of those that collected their PVCS in the 44 polling units where the supplementary election would be held is 31,027 not 44,988 registered voters as earlier announced.

The stakeholders said all the 44 polling units in the 13 local governments of Numan, Demsa, Guyuk, Lamurde, Michika, Madagali, among others where the re-run election would be held are stronghold of the PDP and its candidate.

Speaking for the group, former governor Boni Haruna described Governor Jibrilla’s effort to upturn the wish of the people as an exercise in futility because the total number of PVCS collected in the 44 polling units where re-run is expected to take place is 31,027 a figure that would not reverse Fintiri present figure.

Also, the former SGF Babachir David Lawal an APC chieftain said the only option left for the governor and the APC is to concede defeat, congratulates Fintiri and go back to drawing board and prepare for 2023.
