Adamawa: Fintiri urges supporters to stay calm

The gubernatorial candidate of PDP in Adamawa, Alhaji Ahmadu Fintiri, has urged his supporters to remain calm and steadfast saying that victory was on sight.

He was reacting to the INEC’s decision to declare the state governorship election as inconclusive because the number of votes cancelled in 44 polling units was higher than the margin of lead votes between the two leading contestants.

The returning officer for Adamawa governorship election, Prof Andrew Haruna, had announced that Fintiri scored the highest votes of 367, 472 against Governor Bindow  Jibrilla of APC’s 334,995 votes.

Speaking Monday, Fintiri thanked the electorate for turning out en masse to participate in the election, assuring them that they would coast to victory.

“I want to thank the good people of this state for coming out to exercise their franchise. I also urge them to do same in the supplementary election.

“They should demonstrate the same zeal and commitment to vote for PDP as we are already cruising to victory,” Fintiri said.

The former Speaker of the State House of Assembly and later Acting Governor lauded all stakeholders, INEC and security agencies, for their efforts in ensuring a hitch free exercise.

Also reacting to the election, the APC national vice chairman for North East, Alhaji Salihu Mustafa, who served as his party agent at the collation centre, said the APC was not satisfied with the election.

Mustafa alleged that there were irregularities and violence against APC members in some areas.

“One of our agents was killed in Hong Local Government, while our agents were chased away in some polling units in Demsa local government,” Mustafa fumed. (NAN)
