Adamawa gov’ship poll a referendum on incompetence, -Haruna

Former Governor of Adamawa state Mr Boni Haruna has said that the March 9 gubernatorial elections in the state was a referendum on incompetence, lack of capacity and failure of governance in the state.

Haruna, who made the claim in Yola Wednesday, said the present APC led administration of Governor Bindow Umaru Jibrilla, had collected over N400bn statutory allocations in four years including the Paris Club bailout refunds without having any tangible thing to show for it.

He further stated that instead of infrastructural developments the state became enmeshed in debts to the tune of over N15bn and added that the state has been messed up in all areas of governance in a manner capable of mortgaging the future of the state.

“The March 9th governorship election was a referendum on incompetence, lack of capacity and failure of government in Adamawa state. This is a government that collected over 400bn from May 29th, 2015- May 29th, 2018 from the federation account.

“Yet the government could not pay salaries regularly, the government has left the school system in shambles, hospitals are comatose and civil service completely disrupted leaving staff disoriented. Besides, there are over N14bn unpaid gratuities, pension and leave grants and staggering liabilities on contracts.

“In the face of all the in-flows from the statutory allocations and internally generated revenue the state was still thrown into debt of over 150bn, so there is nothing commensurate to show for the huge receipts from the federation account and other bailout funds received.”

The March 9th election was a liberation day for all the people of Adamawa state, who spoke through their votes, adding their preference for fresh leadership should be respected.

He warned the state government against attempting to manipulate the supplementary election at all cost noting that the battle has already been won and lost.

He advice the governor humbly accept the outcome of the governorship election in the state in good faith by congratulating the winner Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as he stand no chance in the re-run election slated for 23rd March,2019.
