Alleged irregularity: Right group proposes resignation of incumbent President before poll

The chairman of Human Rights, Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIJE), Dede Uzor A. Uzor, has called for the amendment of Nigeria Constitution to give legal backing for the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to step down before an election he is a participant.

Uzor, who was reacting to an alleged massive rigging of the presidential election by the central ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), argued that leaving office was the only way out of the continued electoral fraud, perpetuated by the party in power.

According to him:  “As long as the President is in office to run for reelection, the ruling  party would use government machinery and institutions to manipulate the election to their advantage.

The National Publicity Secretary of Campaign for Democracy (CD), further asked President Muhammad Buhari to resign due to lack of credibility of the election, stressing that Nigerians of good conscience and democrats would definitely resist the injustice and the fraud APC allegedly perpetrated in Borno and Yobe states which recorded high number of votes among others even when they were in a state of war.

The right activist said there was overwhelming evidence all over the country and that the contradictory results posted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was compromised. He called on the Presidential Candidate of People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to resist attempts from any quarter to cajole him not to pursue his mandate to its logical conclusion.
