Alleged negligence: FCTA sets 6-man probe C’ttee

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) Wednesday inaugurated a  committee to investigate circumstances leading to the death of Miss Kafayat Abdul-Azeez at Asokoro Hospital, barely two weeks after the incident occurred.

The six-member committee headed by Dr Evans Onyekele , Director, Medical and Diagnositics of the Health and Human Services Secretariat (HHSS) is to among other things thoroughly investigate the detailed management of the deceased and determine its adequacy or otherwise.

Also, the committee is mandated to determine any evidence of negligence in her management on the part of any member of the team that managed her, as well as recommend appropriate sanctions where necessary on any staff found negligent in her care.

According to the HHSS Director of Adminstration and Finance (DAF), Alhaji Abdulraheem A. Musa who formally inaugurated the committee on behalf of the HHSS secretary, Adamu Bappah, members of the committee were chosen based on experience and expertise and it has two weeks to submit its report.

Bappah added that the committee is to recommend necessary measures to address any significant fallout from the investigation to forestall similar occurrences in the future and make any recommendation, which in the view of the committee would enhance the quality of care provided in FCT hospitals.

Responding, chairman of the Committee, thanked the secretariat for deeming it necessary to investigate the unfortunate incident.

He assured the FCTA of the members of the committee’s commitment to carry out its terms of reference within the stipulated two weeks timeframe.
