APC leader urges more youth in Buhari govt

All Progressives Congress (APC) North-west youth leader, Abubakar Sadiq Fakai, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to engage more youth when he constitutes his next cabinet. He also called on the National Assembly to spread its leadership across the six geopolitical zones of the country.

This is just as the region’s zonal women leader, Hajiya Yahanasu Buba Ahmad, called for 35 per cent women composition in the new cabinet in line with the Beijing affirmative action as reward for their overwhelming support in the president’s re-election.

Addressing a town hall meeting to appreciate the contributions of youth, women and other stakeholders of the North West zone after a successful outing at the 2019 general elections on Sunday in Kaduna, Hon Fakai said the youth in the North promised to provide President Buhari with tangible votes and they delivered 40 per cent, and thus they should be recognised when the next cabinet is constituted.

“Government has empowered youth to go back to farm. We want youth to be empowered in the area of appointments. The youth are ready to work to make the government succeed. So, government should carry them along.

“The National Assembly should equally ensure that they spread the leadership positions across the six geopolitical zones to give all the zones sense of belonging, ensure unity of purpose and enable everybody enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The APC women leader urged President Buhari to consider women politicians in forming the new cabinet, adding that it was the women politicians that suffered with Mr President and other leaders of the party during campaigns, hence they should be considered above women technocrats.

“Wife of Mr President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, has promised us when we went to Lagos for a thank you dinner, that men and women politicians would be considered for appointment as SAs, SSAs, ministers, heads of departments and agencies.”
