APC youth canvass for more youth, women in Buhari govt


All Progressives Congress (APC) North-west Youth Leader Abubakar Sadiq Fakai has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to engage more youth and women in his the new cabinet, while calling on National Assembly to spread its leadership across all geo-political zones.

This is just as the APC North-west Zonal Women Leader, Hajiya Yahanasu Buba Ahmad, called for 35 per cent women composition in the new cabinet to be composed by President Buhari as reward for their support in reelecting the president. 

Addressing a ‘townhall meeting to appreciate the contributions of youths, women and all stakeholders of the North-west zone after a successful outing at the 2019 general elections’, Sunday in Kaduna, Hon Abubakar Fakai said the youth in the North promised to provide President Buhari with big votes and they delivered 40 percent votes, thus they should be recognised when the next cabinet is being composed.

“Our zone did well in returning President Muhammadu Buhari, the success is based on effort of the youth. We promised to provide large votes and we delivered 40 per cent. The federal government has been doing well but government should do more in recognising youth and women in any decision making because both youth and women are the backbone of the party. 

“Government has empowered youth to go back to farm. We want youth to be empowered in the area of appointments. The youths are ready to work to make the government succeed. So, government should carry youth along. 

“The National Assembly should ensure that they spread the leadership positions across the six geopolitical zones to give all the zones sense of belonging, ensure unity of purpose and enable everybody enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The APC zonal women leader, urged President Buhari to consider women politicians in forming a new cabinet, adding that it was the women politicians that suffered with Mr President and other leaders of the party during campaigns, thus they should be considered above women technocrats. 

“Wife of Mr President, Hajiya Aisha Buhari promised us when we went to Lagos for a thank you dinner that men and women politicians will be considered for appointment as SAs, SSAs, ministers, heads of departments and agencies. 

“We want 35 percent women composition of the cabinet. We want women politicians who have suffered for the party during campaigns and elections. North West gave huge votes to President Buhari and we want to be rewarded with appointments,” Hajiya Yahanasu Ahmad added.
