Building collapse: SON strategising with professionals

The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has organised a one-day sensitisation workshop in the North-east zone of Bauchi state for professionals and other stakeholders on the challenges of building collapse in the country.

SON said, the workshop which drew Architects, Builders, Surveyors and other professionals was organised to bring together all stakeholders in the building industry to ensure safety compliance in order to save lives.

In his welcome address, SON Director General Osita Aboloma said that the organisation is worried by the threat posed by building collapse as a result of quackery and non compliance to laid down rules in the building subsector.

Aboloma who was represented by the Gombe State coordinator, Alhaji Umaru Yakubu said  the SON was established in 1971 to ensure adherence to  standards, quality assurance, testing and metrology for products and services in Nigeria.
