CAA U-18, U-20 C’ships: My late coach ‘ll be proud of me – Kara

Princess Kara, a gold medallist at the just-concluded 3rd U-18 and 14th U-20 Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Championships in Cote d’Ivoire, says that her late coach will be proud of her achievements.

Kara, who threw a personal best of 50.04m to win the U-20 category, said before departure from Cote d’Ivoire that she was sure that her late coach would smile at her achievement from heaven.

“I am sure that my late coach will be smiling down from heaven about my achievements and be so proud of me,” she said.

The Delta indigene lost her coach, Felix Opuana, on Aug. 27, 2018.

She was ahead of Rima Ahmed of Egypt who clinched second position and Ethiopia’s Tsehaye Teklu who placed third.

Reacting to how she felt during the competition, she said that her first throw which turned out to be a personal best encouraged her all through her throws.

“The moment I did a first throw and found out it was a Personal Best (PB), I was so happy and full of energy. And then, I did it again and threw another PB.

“It was the most shocking and surprising moment for me because I could not believe I actually threw that distance in my first throw,” she said.

Kara, is a gold medallist at the 2018 National Sports Festival (NSF) in Abuja.

The team departed Cote d’Ivoire for Nigeria on Sunday.(NAN)
