Court remands student accused of murdering lawyer

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos Wednesday ordered that a 21-year-old student, Joshua Usulor, accused of murdering a lawyer, be remanded in prison, pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Magistrate A. Kusanu in her ruling ordered that Usulor be remanded in Ikoyi Prison, pending the outcome of legal advice.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Cousin Adams, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on January 26, about 5.35 p.m. at a Hotel in Opebi.

He alleged that Usulor slit the throat of one Feyisayo Obot, 34, a lawyer, with a knife after robbing her.

Adams said that the deceased travelled to Lagos to write her professional exam. The offence, he said,  contravened the provisions of Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that section 222 stipulates death sentence for offenders.

Kusanu adjourned the case until April 10. (NAN)
