CSO blasts judiciary over alleged issuance of funny orders in political cases

A Civil Society Organisation (CSO) operating as Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room has accused the judiciary of dabbling into murky waters of politics by its issuance of worrying orders, thereby weakening the credibility of the nation’s electoral system.

The Convener, Clement Nwankwo, Alternate Chairs Y.Z Yau and Esther Uzoma in a joint speech ahead of the supplementary elections told newsmen at the weekend that they are worried about the on-going trend.

They said the saddening development has the potential of impugning and damaging respect for the courts and justice system in Nigeria as well as derogating on the credibility of elections.

They however appealed to arms of security services invited by INEC to conduct themselves in a non-partisan and professional manner in the conduct of the supplementary elections.

They said the security services need to demonstrate their commitment to non-partisan support to electoral security.

They said INEC also need to ensure that the supplementary elections are conducted in a free and fair manner as well as to ensure that its processes are respected and implemented.

The group also expects that logistics for the elections are in place and the collation of results conducted in a transparent manner .

“As the 2019 general elections conclude, Situation Room will be observing the supplementary governorship elections to be conducted by the INEC in Bauchi , Benue , Kano , Plateau and Sokoto states.

“Situation Room and its partner organisations will be deploying observers to the Polling Units where elections will be conducted and follow-up with the collation of results, “ they said.
