CUPP trying to cause constitutional crises- Dansadau

The National Rescue Movement (NRM) Senator Saidu Dansadau, has accused the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) alleging that the coalition group was plotting to create constitutional crises.

The Zamfara NRM governorship candidate said the CUPP by the ways and manner it has dabbled into political issues was deliberately inciting the public against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with a view to creating confusion and possibly a shift of the forthcoming general elections.

“I smell a rat in the activities of the CUPP. It is not a political party but a coalition of parties. It is a social club, and therefore must not dabble into issues the registered political parties should be commenting on.

“It is obvious that the CUPP is trying to cause constitutional crises with a view to creating confusion and forcing the INEC to shift the general elections. I think the CUPP is sponsored by some politicians to cause problems, foment crises in the country”, he said stressing that the majority of the political parties were satisfied with the conduct of the INEC.

Speaking specifically on the issue of the failure of the Chief Justice of the Federation, Justice Walter Onnoghen to declare his asset, the candidate said the CUPP had no business meddling in the matter because it is clearly a legal issue.

“Why should the CUPP speak on matters that it ought not to. The way the CUPP has taken the CJN’s failure to declare his asset as required by law clearly leaves much to be desired and goes to show that the CUPP is sponsored by some persons to disrupt INEC’s smooth preparation for the elections.

“The CJN matter is basically a non-political issue. It has to do with the Code of Conduct Tribunal and the CUPP should not have made it a political issue, it has nothing to do with politics. The CUPP should restrain itself to its role as a pressure club not a political party”, he said.

Recall that the CUPP, a coalition of about 50 political parties led by the PDP, ADC, among others had taken the federal government to task over the alleged arraignment of the CJN for claimed failure to declare his asset.
