Delta spends N243bn on road projects in 3 years’

The Delta government said it has spent more than N243 billion on road projects across the state in the last three years.

The state Commissioner for Economic Planning, Dr Kingsley Emu, stated this during a-one-day citizens’ sensitisation programme tagged: “Citizens Engagement Forum on Delta State 2019 Budget’’ last Wednesday in Asaba.

Emu said, “ The road projects comprise of 1,032 road projects measuring more than 1,000 kilometers as well as 344 kilometers of drains across the state.’’

He said 135 projects covering 495 kilometers of roads and 159 kilometers of drainage channels had so far been completed, adding that in the 2019 fiscal year, the sum of N79.6 billion had been earmarked for road infrastructure as captured in the 2019 budget of the state.

According to him, the sum will be used for the completion of some of the ongoing projects in the state and a host of others will be undertaken in the 2019 budget year.

He listed some of the ongoing projects to include; rehabilitation of roads across the state, rehabilitation work on the Asaba International Airport Runway and Taxiway (design),  construction of link roads along Okpanam Road, Asaba.

Other projects  include;  the construction of Ayakoromor Bridge across River Forcados in Warri South West, construction of Ughelli-Afeisere road-Ufuoma road in Ughelli North Local Government Area of the state.

The commissioner also said the state government would ensure that a minimum of 20 kilometers of roads was constructed in each of the local government areas of the state.

Emu therefore called on the people of the state to support Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa’s efforts by ensuring regular monitoring of government projects in their domain.
