Enugu goes to guber polls without APC

Four days to the governorship election, it is not yet clear who would be the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu state.

At the last count, no governorship candidate of the party is listed on INEC website, thereby creating uncertainty for the party faithful and the Enugu electorate for the forthcoming polls.

The anxiety is heightened by the fact that the governorship polls is barely four days away and the issue of who is the authentic candidate of APC has not been sorted out by INEC and the leadership of APC.

The anxiety is also heightened by the conspicuous removal of APC in the (INEC) final list in its website of political parties participating in the governorship election.
It was gathered that the removal has thrown members of the party in the state into confusion as to who is the exact governorship and deputy governorship candidate of the party, between Senator Ayogu Eze/Prince Chikwado and George Ogara/Mrs. Ginika Tor.

The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, had on 5th of February, 2019 sacked Senator Ayogu Eze as the governorship candidate of the party.

The court in the judgment delivered by Justice I. Ekwo of the Federal High Court 5, asked INEC to recognize George Ogara as the candidate of the party in replacement of Senator Eze.

However, less than three days to the election, the APC National Working Committee (NWC), led by Adams Oshiomhole is yet to obey the order of the court by submitting the name of Mr Ogara to the INEC as court directed.

A source from INEC disclosed that APC is yet to fill the form 001 and 002 that bears the names of George Tabugbo Ogara and Ginika Tor in accordance to the court order.

“So, upon this fragrant disobedience to the lawful court order that INEC decided to expunge the name of Senator Ayogu Eze as the candidate of APC and leave its space in the list blank,” the source said.

It was gathered that the name of Senator Eze is in the original list sent from Abuja, before the court ruling on February 5, which directed INEC to recognize Mr Ogara, as the authentic governorship candidate of APC in the state.

However, director of media for Senator Ayogu Eze Campaign Organisation, Okey Ezirigwe said that his principal is the authentic candidate for the polls.

“Disregard whatever you are reading in the media about Eze not being the candidate.  We are going to receive him at the airport today,” he said.
