Ex-Rep, Adeh, endorses Maje’s bid for speakership

Former House of Representatives member Lumumba Da Adeh has endorsed the bid by Ahmad Idris Maje to become the next speaker of the House.

The ex-federal lawmaker disclosed this in Jos, saying that former members of the House of Representatives from the North Central zone are fully behind Maje’s bid to become speaker.

Adeh, who represented Jos North/Bassa federal constituency between 1999 and 2003, said Maje possesses the quality of a high class lawmaker with the capacity to effectively preside over the house.

He said Nigeria is at a stage where it needs experienced hands at the helm of affairs of the legislature for it to develop at the pace required adding the APC cannot afford not to get it right in the next dispensation by making the right choice at all levels.

He said, “We already have a capable president who is assisted by an equally able vice, so the process of putting round pegs in round holes must be replicated at all levels for the party to achieve what it promised the electorate.”

Adeh said “After nearly 20 years of uninterrupted democracy, Nigeria has passed the stage where it can be said to be learning, so we need experienced people to preside over the affairs of the legislature to establish the synergy needed by the three arms of government for the growth and development  of the  country.”

Adeh  said the current configuration of the political structure of the country favours the North Central to produce the speaker.

He said this is because all the other zones that contributed to the success of the APC in the last general elections have all been placed in strategic positions.

“The president is from the Northwest while the vice president is from the Southwest. The Senate president may likely come from the Northeast so the North Central should have it.

“And if you look at the elected members from the zone you will see that Maje stands out because of his years of experience, commitment to the party,  sense of organisation  and leadership qualities.,” he stated.

Adeh urged the APC to focus and what will foster cohesion and national unity in deciding which zone produces the next speaker saying the party’s best chance lies in not just zoning the position of speaker to the North Central,  but adopting Maje as the candidate for the position.
