Farmers clashes: Govt insists on recreation of grazing reserves


The federal government has insisted on recreating the grazing reserves as part of efforts to curtail the continuous clashes between crop farmers and herdsmen.

The   Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, disclosed this this when he received 64 participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course Twelve (EIMC12) and Faculty Members of the Institute for Security Studies, lower Usma Dam, Bwari, Abuja in his office last Thursday.

Ogbeh said government will soon embark on re-creation of Grazing Reserves in the country.

The minister appreciated what the institute is doing is for the development of West-Africa region and Africa in general, adding that the security analysis they embarked upon in the institute is good gesture as it will help in developing the country’s democracy especially during election where high level of violence due to desperate politicians is rampant.

Chief Ogbeh said re-creation of grazing reserves became necessary because of the farmers and herders conflict, and high level of unemployment in the country in which the grazing reserves will help in solving the problems.

He said, “We are not going to any state that is not interested and we are not going to collect any bodies land.”   

He called on the individuals who have interest and ability to build grazing reserve to do so and promised government support.

He called on the participants to focus on the security challenges facing the West Africa Region and Africa in general.

Earlier,  the Director of the Institute, Alhaji A.Adeleke, represented by the Deputy Director Studies, Dr. A.M.Wali, the team leader, introduced the 64 participants of Executive Intelligence Management Course Twelve (EIMC 12) and Faculty members of the Institute for Security Studies, Lower Usman Dam,  Bwari,  Abuja.

He also said that the Course Participants are drawn from 21 Agencies in Nigeria and 5 Foreign Nationale from Benin Republic, Liberia, Niger and Sierra Leone consisting of very Senior Officers from the Military Intelligence, Security, Paramilitary, Law Enforcement, Regulatory and other government strategic agencies.

Adeleke further said that the theme of this year’s course is Transhumane and International Migration: Challenges on governance, Peace and Sustainable Development in sub-Sahara Africa.

The team leader said that the purpose of the visit is to thank the minister for his laudable achievement in curtailing the agro-terrorism where people are hoarding farm inputs and also congratulate him on the success that the country achieved in the agricultural sector.
