FCT Police nab 53 over robbery, others


…Increases personnel deployment to area councils

The Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has arrested 53 suspects over their alleged involvement in armed robbery, car snatching, drug abuse and dealing among others.

This is as the command has deployed more Police personnel to area councils to check activities of criminals in the territory.

Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Criminal Investigation Department in the command,  Salisu Gyadi-Gyadi, disclosed this while addressing journalists, Wednesday at the command headquarters in Abuja.

He said 10 armed robbery suspects, four car snatchers, five receiver of stolen items, 25 phone snatchers/ pickpockets as well as nine dealers on narcotics were arrested.

Gyadi-Gyadi said the suspects include: Rabiu Usman, 20, Bala Abba, 22, Aminu Mohammed, 24, Bilyaminu Abubakar, 21, Nuhu Ahmed, 22, Aminu Musa,20, Sani Wanzam, 30, Abdulsalam Isyaku, 20,Magaji Amadu,33, Aminu Danjuma,27, and Emmanuel David, 24, among others.

The Police boss disclosed that the command had deployed additional personnel to Abaji, kwali, Gwagwalada, Bwari and Kuje council areas to check activities of criminals within the territory.

According to him, “The proactive measures put in place by the command to combat crime in FCT are yielding positive results.

“The command is also proud to attribute some of the successes to information received from spirited members of the public.”

The Police boss, who said the suspects would be charged to court on completion of investigation, disclosed that efforts were being made to arrest some of the suspects who are still at large.

He listed some of the items recovered from the suspects to include: four locally fabricated fire arms, two toy guns, 12 live ammunition, 12 vehicles, one motorcycle, and 24 handsets.

Others include: 12 knives, two cutlasses, 14 sticks, various charms, three harmers, large quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 23 packets of ‘solution’, and 44 bottles of locally made codeine.

Gyadi-Gyadi said the command had keyed intoOperation Puff Adder, recently launched by the acting Inspector-General of Police Muhammed Adamu.
