GSS Kubwa holds 22nd inter house sports competition


It takes a sound mind to effectively gain knowledge. It was to this end that the staff and students of Government Secondary School Kubwa, came out in their numbers to celebrate their 22nd inter-house sports competition.

The occasion which was a week-long activity with the grand finale holding on February 27, started at 10am.  A large number of dignitaries from the education sector and schools around Bwari area council witnessed the events.

The principal of the school,  Mr Nuhu Musa, in his welcome address, thanked everyone for making out time to grace the occasion. He also thanked the staff and students for their relentless effort towards the success of the competition, and charged the student to keep up the pace in their academic works too.

He stated that the event was the second inter house sports competition in the school, adding that he was impressed by the turnout and efforts put together by both staff and students.

The event had the students competing in various events like sprinting, football, long jump, badminton, and march-past by the various houses. The staff was led by the principal.

The houses were mostly named after area councils in the FCT: Bwari House (Red), Kuje House (blue), Abaji House (Pink), Gwagwalada House (Green), Garki House (Yellow), Rubochi House (Purple), School House (White), and Orange House (Orange).

Other schools who were at the event included Government Girls’ Secondary School, Dutse, and Government Secondary School, Jabi.

At the end of the event, Red House came third with the total of five gold medals; Purple House came second with the total of six gold medals while Orange House came first with the total of seven gold medals.

Coordinator of Purple House was so happy that her house came 2nd.

“We and other house members put our best into the competition, so we deserve it.  It wouldn’t have been possible without the cooperation of the students,” the coordinator said.

Orange House coordinator was also happy.

“We don win ooo, we don win” was all she could said.

The principal in an interview with Blueprint thanked God for the success of the event. He said he was pleased that everything came out peacefully, and commended his staff for every effort put in and also encouraged his students to put in such spirit in their academic undertakings.

He went further to thank all that came out for the event and wished everyone safe journey to their respective destinations.

He extended his warm salute to SS3 students who were not able to partake fully in the event due to preparations for their examinations, and advised them to work hard in order to come out with flying colours in their exams.
