Gunmen invade Benue community kill 10




Gunmen Wednesday attacked and killed at least 10 persons in Tser-Iorayev community at Ukpam village in Guma local government area of Benue state. 

Some of the locals who spoke to Blueprint under anonymity said the gunmen stormed the village in the midnight and killed the ten persons.

“The incident happened in the night as the people were sleeping outside their houses because of heat, when the gunmen came to the community.

“They shot at the people and immediately ran away; no one knows the identity of those responsible for the killing,” the locals said.

Chairman of Guma local government, Mr. Anthony Shawon, confirmed the incident, saying 10 persons were killed in the attack.

“A day before Tuesday, someone was killed by herdsmen before the incident at Tser-Iorayev

“It is the same herdsmen that went to this community on Tuesday night and killed 10 people who were sleeping outside. The corpses are being buried as I am talking to you now,” Shawon said.

Also confirming the report, spokesman for Benue state Police command, DSP Catherine Anene, said “the Divisional Police Officer in Guma just confirmed the incident. The DPO said he found five corpses at the time he got to the burial site.

“Members of the community stated that they had buried some persons before the arrival of the police,” Catherine added

The force commander, Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Adeyemi Yekini, said investigation was ongoing to fish out the attackers of the community.
