Kano re-run freest, fairest in history – Ganduje’s aides

The recently concluded Kano governorship supplementary election has been described as the freest and fairest in the history of the state.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Hon Ali Haruna Makoda, while addressing a press conference in Kano Wednesday, also accused the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP’s) Kwankwasiyya of massively deploying thugs to scuttle the process.

Makoda, who spoke in the company of the Vice Chancellor of the Kano State University of Technology, Wudil, Prof Shehu Musa, stated that the PDP thugs were however overpowered by the security operatives at the polling units.

“There were also massive deployment of foreign nationals from our neighbouring countries by the Kwankwasiyya group to unleash terror on Kano people as they did during their political campaigns but their threats were taken care of by the combined efforts of the security agencies,” Makoda added.

“In some areas like Kibiya and Dala local government areas, they disrupted the process through open vote-buying and intimidation of the electorate and tampering with election materials.”

Makoda then thanked DIG Anthony Ogbizi, who he said stood by his word in ensuring that the election was conducted in accordance with the electoral laws.

On his part, the Kano varsity VC, Prof Musa said the re-election of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was “a clear testimony of his commitment to change, continuity, consolidation, transformation, repositioning and deployment of cutting edge technologies and administrative acumen galvanised to take Kano to greater heights”.

He stated that his victory is a sure choice of taking Kano to the next level in line with the aspirations of President Muhammadu Buhari, assuring that Ganduje’s journey in the next four years will see to the transformation of Kano and its people.

According to him, the transformation will cover areas like education, agriculture, health, critical infrastructure, youth and women empowerment, security as well as elevation of Kano’s commercial status.

“The general cooperation, understanding and commitment of all citizens is needed to realise the aspiration of Governor Ganduje’s administration as outlined in his 2019-2023 Kano State Blueprint for Social and Economic Development,”, he said.
